HOW JANUARY IS NOW THE KICK OFF TO THE SPRING REAL ESTATE SURGE
Historically, everyone has viewed the month of April to be the best time to list their homes. The weather starts improving, flowers are blooming, and everyone starts to emerge from their winter hibernation. It’s a beautiful time to get out and shop for homes as well. However, recent studies have shown that January is really when things start picking up for the real estate market. Last year, January was only 1% behind February for the most listing views per month on Realtor.com. This shows that the busiest season is starting now!
You may be wondering why people would want to buy and sell during the middle of winter. It really comes down to supply and demand. There are significantly less homes on the market in the winter, especially this year in our local Stanwood-Camano market. This means that it is a more competitive market. With a short supply of homes on the market, shoppers have less to choose from and are more motivated to move quickly when one comes up that they’re interested in.
When you’re looking to sell it is always good to be ahead of the competition. With fewer homes on the market right now, listing before all the competition in the spring will put you in a great position.
THE UPSIDE OF LISTING BEFORE THE SPRING SURGE
There area many “pros” to listing before the big spring real estate surge. Besides being ahead of the competition, here are some of the best reasons:
- Get moved and settled in time to enjoy spring/summer in your new home
- Less yard work to keep up on while your house is for sale
- Movers/moving related services are not as busy this time of year
- Views can be better without leaves on trees
- Closing can be quicker due to loan/escrow offices not being as busy
- Less competition usually means quicker sale, and more money!
